Man Arrested For DUI After Crashing Into Street Sign

A Redding man with two prior DUI convictions was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Saturday evening, according to Redding Police. Witnesses told Redding Police that a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville was driving on Old Alturas Road and was swerving across the lanes. The woman who called 911 said the Pontiac left the south side of the road and struck a pedestrian crossing sign at the intersection of Oak Mesa Lane and Old Alturas. Another witness saw the collision and followed the car to a residence on Lema Road. Officers responded and found the parked car with front end damage, and both airbags had deployed. Officers contacted 33-year-old Shawn Bouge who was suffering from a laceration to his hips and abrasions from a seatbelt. 31-year-old Thomas Carter was also contacted and his matched the description of the driver of the Pontiac. He was identified by the witness as the driver, but did not have an visible injuries. Carter reportedly denied being involved in the crash, but was evaluated by a DUI specialist who determined he was driving under the influence. He was arrested for felony DUI causing injury, felony hit and run, and for driving on a suspended license.
