Woman Arrested For Threatening Man With Hedge Trimmer

A verbal argument apparently escalated and a woman was arrested after a fight involving a hedge trimmer and baseball bat, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to the area of Mt. View Road and Quebec Street in Burney on Saturday evening to check on an victim who had been assaulted with a baseball bat. 49-year-old Bonnie Montgomery was contacted by deputies in front of an apartment on Quebec Street, and appeared to have severe injuries to her left arm and to her head. 48-year-old Keith Birse was found nearby and witnesses told deputies that he was the man who had struck Montgomery with the bat. Deputies determined that the two had been in a verbal argument and Montgomery came at Birse with hedge trimmers and told him she was going to stab him. Birse armed himself with the bat to protect himself and struck her. Montgomery was taken to the hospital for treatment. Birse was released on the totality of the investigation. Montgomery will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats. The case will be submitted to the DA’s Office.
