Officers Shoot Burglary Suspect Near Downtown Redding

A man was shot by several Redding Police Officers near Downtown Redding Monday morning. Officers were called to check on a residential burglary in the 700 block of Mary Street near 7th Street. The unidentified man apparently broke into the home while the residents were home. By the time officers arrived the man had fled the area. He was found a short distance away after receiving word that a man was trespassing at Shasta High School. Police say the suspect battered a staff member who confronted him. The man left the school and was spotted by police about 10AM near Mary Street. Captain Eric Wallace says that the man was uncooperative. The suspect was shot a short time later. Wallace said three officers were on scene at the time of the shooting and he said that it does not appear that the suspect fired at the officers and they were unable to locate a weapon. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
