Police Hunt Looters

A large contingent of police officers and National Guard troops continue to canvass the evacuated areas of the Carr Fire zone hunting looters. Just before 6 o’clock Monday a CHP officer in the area of Highway 273 and Clear Creek saw a man driving a quadrunner through a fenced area. He stopped the off-road vehicle, driven by 39-year-old Jacob Taylor of Redding. The officer noticed that the ignition of the quad had been punched so he contacted the owner. She said the last she saw the quad it was parked in the garage of her home on South View Drive, well within the evacuated area. Sheriff’s deputies checked the home and reportedly found evidence there and on Taylor that linked him to a burglary of the home. He was charged with several counts, including looting. Redding Police Chief Roger Moore says a handful of arrests have been made and since courts are closed this week, they’ll be in jail until at least Monday.
