Carr Fire Grows To Over 229-Thousand Acres, Containment Edges Up

Containment continues to grow on the Carr Fire. As of Monday morning it stands at 88%. The massive blaze has blackened 229,651 acres. Heavy smoke reduced fire activity over the weekend but terrain driven winds near Lake Shasta have challenged firefighting efforts. The fire continues to be very active within the containment lines. All evacuation orders have been lifted. Highway 299 is open with significant delays between Redding and Weaverville. The Shasta Trinity National Forest is closed as is Whiskeytown, except for the visitor center which is open. All BLM lands are closed. Shasta Caverns is open.
