Heavy smoke over much of the Carr Fire has helped fire crews reduce fire activity significantly, according to Cal-Fire. The massive blaze has grown to 229,651 and crews have reached 90% containment. Pockets of unburned fuel are continuing to burn within the fire perimeter, but heavy timber fuel is still challenging firefighters. Damage inspection teams have completed their assessments within the fire area. Highway 299 is open in both directions, but drivers should expect delays and should watch for fire crews in the area.
