Hirz Fire Continues To Grow As Evacuation Orders Are Lifted

The Hirz Fire on the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta continues to rage. It started along Gilman Road and has progressed over Tombstone Mountain. It’s 28% contained after burning 29,506 acres of forest. No structural damage has been reported and all evacuation orders on the Hirz Fire were lifted Friday morning except for the McCloud River Club. All national forest roads and trails near the fire are closed and boat access is closed on the McCloud Arm just above Holiday Harbor. Crews are continuing back burning operations on the western edge of the Hirz Fire as conditions allow, and they’re holding the containment line from Bucks Peak west toward Middle Salt Creek. A watertender truck working the Hirz fire tipped onto it’s side Sunday. The driver escaped injury.

The Stone Fire burning the Modoc National Forest has grown to 39,386 acres and it’s now 63% contained. Lines have been built around the entire perimeter, and they held during Sunday’s wind increase. California’s largest wildfire has grown to more than 400,000 acres. The Mendocino Complex is actually two fires being managed as one. It’s burning in Colusa, Glenn, Lake, and Mendocino Counties. It is still 67% contained.
