A man was shot and killed by Redding Police off East Cypress Avenue Monday morning. At around 7:45AM the unidentified man was reported by several people as acting strangely and aggressively near businesses around the Cypress and Churn Creek intersection. He was reported to be jumping on cars and challenging people to fight. Another report was that he had approached a woman at the Safeway Gas Station and asked for a ride. A witness saw that he was concealing a knife behind his leg and so the witness warned the woman. As officers were arriving on scene, the man ran to Larkspur Lane, where he was confronted by officers next to the Tri-Counties Bank. He allegedly challenged the officers to fight and threatened them with a knife. He was shot after refusing officers’ demands to drop the knife. Four officers were involved in the shooting. The sheriff’s office is handling the investigation.
