Environmental School At Whiskeytown To Remain Closed

After an assessment for damage from the Carr Fire, the National Park Service and the Shasta County Office of Education have announced that Whiskeytown Environmental School will not reopen. A team did an onsite visit on Monday and determined that the threat of flooding and debris flows that could involve large boulders and trees coming into the heart of the school facilities is too great as recently as 2017, heavy rain forced evacuation of the facility. With the damage from this year’s fire, authorities believe the threat is greater now. For the 2018-2019 school year, temporary accommodations have been made to operate at the Lassen Pines Christian Conference Center.
