Crews Remap Trinity County Fire, Containment Grows On Hirz Fire

A fire near Hyampom in Trinity County is actually less than half the size than it was previously estimated. The Kerlin Fire was reported as more than 2000 acres but an infrared mapping flight was done Thursday and it’s now reported as 975 acres. It still has zero containment. About 100 homes are threatened, though none have been lost. Mandatory evacuations were ordered Wednesday night for residents on County Road 311 from Lake Mountain Ranch to Dead Man’s Point.

The Hirz Fire on the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta has remained within its control lines and is now 75% contained after burning 46,142 acres. The human-caused fire began August 9th along Gilman Road. Crews have held the northern perimeter at Yellowjacket Mountain and contingency lines are constructed around the entire perimeter. Boat access is closed on the McCloud Arm of the lake just above Holiday Harbor. The Forest Service expects to achieve full containment on the Hirz fire by the end of this weekend.
