Woman Killed In High Speed Crash Identified

A young woman from Gerber who was killed in a crash in Tehama County last Friday afternoon has been identified. 26-year-old Jacob Cozine was driving a Chevy HHR northbound on Rawson Road north of Chard Avenue at what the CHP says was a very high rate of speed when he lost control. The vehicle struck a guardrail so hard it severed it from its four metal posts. The force snapped Cozine’s seatbelt and he was ejected. The abrupt stop also caused the entire passenger seat to be ejected, along with the passenger, 20-year-old Alexis Gardere. She was flown to Enloe Hospital, where she died of her injuries. Cozine suffered major injuries. The CHP says Cozine had been arrested a week earlier after being stopped on Interstate 5 driving more than 100 miles an hour.
