Nine people have been booked into Shasta County Jail on felony charges for contracting without a license in the Carr Fire damage zone. Early on in the fire’s aftermath the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office made it public that unlicensed contracting, normally a misdemeanor, can be prosecuted as a felony when it’s done at a home damaged in a designated disaster area. So it should have come as no surprise this week when the nine were caught in a sting operation, conducted by the D.A.’s Office along with the Contractor’s State License Board.
