Trial Date Set For Man Accused Of Fatal DUI Crash

A case is moving slowly in Shasta County against a Trinity County man for an allegedly drunken crash four years ago that killed a 29-year-old Weaverville woman and her unborn child. On July 25th of 2014, Dorlis Jean Lauri -who went by “DJ”- was one of three passengers in a Toyota Camry driven by 40-year-old Robert Wayne Frederick of Burnt Ranch. The car was westbound on Highway 44 west of Tompata Trail when the right tires dropped onto the dirt shoulder. Frederick overcorrected and the car went across the highway and left the pavement on the other side, then collided with a wire fence and overturned an unknown number of times through a field. Other drivers stopped and pulled the four people from the car just before it burst into flames and became fully engulfed in fire. DJ, who was pregnant, died after arriving at the hospital. Kevin Rawlins of Bella Vista and Jennifer Jones of Lewiston had various cuts and bruises, as well as possible neck and back injuries. Frederick, who suffered some cuts and scrapes, was arrested for felony DUI. He was already on probation for a prior DUI conviction. At a preliminary hearing Thursday Frederick was ordered to stand trial on charges that include two counts of second degree murder. Trial dates will be set October 29th.
