August Unemployment Rate Lowest On Record In Shasta County

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California’s unemployment rate remained at 4.2 percent in August. The state Employment Development Department says Friday the rate has held steady for five months. The department says California adds 44,800 nonfarm payroll jobs in August, for a total gain of more than 3 million jobs since economic expansion began in February 2010. Unemployment has reached a new record low for August in Shasta County. The 4.7% rate means that virtually everybody who wants a job has a job. The 1400 jobs added last month are almost fully attributable to local government in the form of education positions. The only slump was in retail, and that was expected. Tehama County and Siskiyou County both had a 5.5% jobless rate last month. It was 4.2% in Trinity County.
