A man who nearly lost his wife in the Carr Fire tornado is suing the City of Redding saying they had knowledge a fire of it’s scope was likely and more could have been done to prevent it. A document called “The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan” was created in 2014 and passed by the city council. Developer Jack Baker says according to that document 17 percent of all structures in the city would be affected by a major wildfire with a dollar loss of over $135,000,000. Baker, who lives in Stanford Hills says he does not want money from the lawsuit, but rather wants the city to rethink it’s open space policy and make vegetation management a priority.
