Large Spot Near Delta Fire Grows To 1000 Acres

A fire that spotted outside the containment lines of the Delta Fire Tuesday afternoon has grown to more than 1,047 acres. The spot fire is burning in Bear Gulch off the southwest corner of the main fire and has been backing toward Dog Creek Road on the south and Clear Creek to the west. Tankers have been making drops along the ridges to the north above Bear Gulch to keep it from moving that way. There’s also a smaller spot fire on the south side of Damnation Creek. It’s estimated at 17 acres, and a fire line with a hose lay has been completed around it. The total size of the delta fire is 62,504 acres, with 98% overall containment. 20 structures have been destroyed. Full containment is expected next Friday October 5th. Crews main priority right now is containment of the big spot fire, which has itself been spotting additional fires. Mop-up, suppression repair, and overhaul is actively underway on most of the Delta and Hirz Fire areas. There are no restrictions on Interstate Five and all mandatory evacuations have been lifted.
