Father Arrested After Standoff At Kid’s Kingdom

A Redding Police hostage negotiator was able to rescue an infant after his father was in a brief standoff with police at Kids Kingdom Friday. At about Noon, 21-year-old Mathew Walker went to his girlfriends home and took their infant child before fleeing the residence. Walker had reportedly assaulted his girlfriend the day before and was wanted on felony domestic violence charges. Officers were able to track down Walker and found him at Kids Kingdom inside Enterprise Park. As officers tried to apprehend Walker, he was uncooperative and would not comply with their commands. He was found sitting inside his vehicle with his infant son sitting on his lap. He refused to come out and officers attempted to get him to surrender for about 15 minutes. Investigator Dimatteo was called to help negotiate with Walker. After sometime the officer was able to safely negotiate Walker’s surrender via cell phone and after about 20 minutes he surrendered to officers. Walker was arrested for felony domestic violence, felony child endangerment, and resisting arrest. He was booked into Shasta County Jail and is currently on probation for a previous assault with a deadly weapon conviction.
