Honor Guard Positions Eliminated At Igo Veterans Cemetery

Families of military veterans buried at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery might have to face lengthy delays for funerals if they want them attended by an Honor Guard. There used to be a U.S. Army Honor Guard permanently stationed at the cemetery in Igo, specifically to set the tone of respect and to provide the taps and volley of shots that traditionally accompany a military funeral. Apparently those positions have been terminated and a unit will now need to drive from Sacramento anytime such honors are needed and requested. One local widow says she was told that if she wanted an Honor Guard at her veteran husband’s funeral, she would have to fill out a form and wait two months for the request to be processed.
