Redding Firefighters Extinguish 2 Fires Thursday Night

Redding Fire Department is investigating an arson fire inside a Redding fast food restaurant. Somebody apparently ignited toilet paper or paper towels inside one of the restrooms at the McDonald’s on Churn Creek Road in the Target Shopping Center. Investigators interviewed bystanders and are reviewing surveillance footage to try and identify the responsible person.

A stubborn fire next to the Cypress Avenue Bridge Thursday night was apparently caused by homeless activity. Redding Firefighters found the fire to be deep seated in berry bushes and other thick vegetation and debris. It took three engines and an extended amount of time to extinguish the fire, which was on the east side of the river. It was held to less than an acre. It apparently originated from a well established homeless camp.
