Redding Firefighters responded to two separate fires overnight. One was located on Abernathy Way. A large utility pickup truck with a trailer caught fire and the owner took the bold step of getting in the burning truck and moving it away from buildings. He suffered burns in the process and was transported to Mercy Medical Center. The truck and trailer were destroyed. The other fire occurred near where Hartnell Avenue crosses over Churn Creek. Redding Fire Investigator Patrick O’Connor says that vegetation fire originated at an established homeless camp near the creekbed. There was no structural damage resulting from either fire.
