Prescribed burns are planned by the Forest Service over the next few days north and east of McCloud. The largest is around 600 acres to be torched between Pilgrim Creek Road and Harris Spring Road. Another 45 acres will be burned on the south side of Harris Mountain Road. Just over 400 acres will be burned east of McCloud off Highway 89 and Cattle Camp Road. All the operations are designed to eliminate understory fuels and reduce the severity of fires in the future. It’ll also improve the landscape for wildlife.
