Car Catches Fire After Tumbling 400 Feet Near Weaverville

At least one person died in a crash west of Weaverville Monday, and Trinity County officials aren’t certain if there are more victims because of a fire that destroyed the car and spread to surrounding vegetation. According to the Trinity Journal, the car had gone off the side of the cliff while climbing Oregon Summit on Highway 299. It tumbled about 400 feet down the steep embankment before coming to rest and catching fire. The resulting vegetation fire was held to about a half-acre.
