Deputies: Man Stabbed At Manton Monastery

A Manton monastery was the scene of a stabbing early Halloween morning, which landed a man in jail. A patron at the Monastery of St. John apparently overindulged. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 2:21AM reporting an intoxicated guest was causing a disturbance. The situation quickly escalated, as a caller reported that the man had a knife. At 2:49AM, a neighbor on Ponderosa Way called to report that a resident of the monastery, Vasili Romanzov, had been stabbed. When deputies arrived, they found the suspect, Michail Pijenko, with a kitchen knife next to him. Pijenko was booked into Tehama County Jail, charged with attempted murder. Romanzov, who said the attack was unprovoked, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
