Update: Trinity Supervisors Delay Decision On County Sheriff

The Trinity County Board of Supervisors has delayed a decision on a Sheriff until Friday. According to the Trinity Journal, the board has decided to wait until the election results are in to name a possible Interim Sheriff in the wake of Bruce Haney’s early resignation last week. The newly elected Sheriff won’t take office until January, but the board could appoint the winner on an interim basis. In the meantime, Under-Sheriff Chris Compton is performing sheriff duties. Initial election results show Deputy Marshal and retired California Highway Patrol Captain Tim Saxon leading Sheriff’s Corporal Ron Hanover, by a wide margin, 56 to 42 percent. Hanover said during the campaign that as Sheriff he would continue to work in the field and lead from the front lines. Saxon campaigned on addressing mental health issues in the justice system and setting up a missing persons and cold case investigative unit, comprised of part-time, retired law enforcement officers.
