Shasta County Voters Differ From Statewide Numbers

Once again, Shasta County voters’ choices didn’t match the rest of the state. For instance, statewide, Gavin Newsom garnered 59% of the vote, while John Cox was favored by Shasta County voters, with 71%. Between the 2 Democrats running for the U.S. Senate, local voters favored Kevin De Leon, while the majority of voters statewide cast ballots for the incumbent, Diane Feinstein. As for the propositions, Shasta County differed from the state on almost half of them, favoring Proposition Six, which would have repealed SB1, the recent gas tax increase. That measure failed statewide. Local voters also felt that chickens didn’t need more room, bucking the majority of the state on Proposition 12.
