Fire Sparked By Grinder Burns 2 Acres

An aggressive response was sent to a vegetation fire at the north end of Redding Sunday. It started around Noon, and was located off Akrich Drive in the mutual threat zone that surrounds city limits, so both Redding Fire and Cal-Fire responded. In addition to engines from both agencies, a helicopter and two air tankers responded as well. The fire was prevented from reaching nearby homes, but burned about 2 acres of dry grass and brush. Fire Inspector Patrick O’Connor says it was sparked by somebody using a grinder in the middle of the dry field.
