42 Confirmed Dead As Camp Fire Grows To 125,000 Acres

The Camp Fire has become both the deadliest and the most destructive wildfire in California history. The discovery of 13 more bodies brings the total number of fatalities to 42. 6,552 homes have been destroyed along with 260 businesses in the 125,000 acre fire that just started last Thursday morning. Cal-Fire says they’ve achieved 30% containment. More than 5,000 personnel from various agencies are fighting the camp fire. On Monday maps and lists were made available that showed many of the destroyed homes. The Sheriff’s Office reminds anyone seeking information about a missing person to check safeandwell.org. Also On Monady firefighters were battling two large spot fires to the south. Cal-Fire Deputy Operations Chief Monty Smith says dense, dry vegetation was fueling the spot fires on each side of Lake Oroville. A Fire Behavior Specialist at Cal-Fire, Jonathan Pangburn, said earlier that major winds combined with tinder dry conditions helped the fire jump over the lake Sunday night. Smith says firefighters were working to build a contingency line to stop the fire from reaching Oroville.
