K9 Helps Officers Make Arrest Of Violent Woman

A homeless woman was arrested in East Redding Monday night after reportedly getting violent with firefighters and police. Redding Fire had responded to a report of smoke in the dry brush of the greenbelt area near Victor Avenue and Conifer Way. When they arrived they were repelled by the woman, who was violently refusing to extinguish her campfire. When police officers approached she reportedly started throwing large rocks at them, hitting one officer between the shoulder blades. Non-lethal methods were attempted but they failed to work. A police K9 was then sent after the woman. Officers say she continued to strike and kick the K9 and the officers before eventually being subdued. Two officers were treated for minor injuries. 49-year-old Julie Bishop was medically cleared and then booked into jail.
