Man Arrested After High Speed Chase To Lake Shasta

An Anderson man has been arrested after a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle that almost ended in a lake. Monday morning at around 2AM, a Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy on Shasta Dam Boulevard noticed a car without a rear license plate. He turned on his overhead lights and sirens to pull the vehicle over. Instead, the driver fled down the street and turned onto Montana Avenue, running a stop sign and increasing his speed. The pursuit continued as the driver got back onto Shasta Dam Boulevard, heading in the wrong direction. Speeds reached 90 miles an hour as the chase continued into Ashby Road, Pine Grove Avenue and Lake Boulevard, ultimately ending at the Centimudi Boat Ramp at Lake Shasta. The driver got out of the vehicle and allowed it drift forward, where it came to rest just before going into the water. Checking the vehicle, deputies found a shaken woman inside, 49-year-old Kristi Kae O’Neil, who cooperated with officers. She was treated for injuries at the scene, then taken to Mercy Medical Center for further treatment. Deputies surrounded the area and sent K9 Fritz in. The driver, 52-year-old Duane Lee Enquist of Anderson, was located hiding in some bushes and arrested on numerous charges, including felony evading, driving on a suspended license and possession of a stolen vehicle.
