CHICO, Calif. (AP) – A California businessman says he was heartbroken to see the destruction left by a deadly wildfire and plans to donate $1,000 to each student and staff member at Paradise High School in hopes of giving them some comfort. Rancho Santa Fe businessman Bob Wilson plans to personally hand out checks Tuesday to the school’s 980 students and 105 teachers and other staff in Chico. Wilson says high school was the only “truly carefree time” of his life and seeing the high school kids in Paradise going through such a difficult time broke his heart. Wilson says he thought of making the $1.1 million donation after reading a Los Angeles Times story about how the high school was still standing, but students were scattered and separated from each other.
