Head-On Crash Sends 7 To Area Hospitals

Seven people were taken to three different hospitals Sunday after a head-on crash in Southeast Redding. At 9:40AM, 29-year-old Eziaha Achinefu was driving a Toyota Camry south on Airport Road and had just past Kent’s Market. The CHP says she was going 55 to 60 miles an hour, which is over the speed limit and dangerous on the soggy roadway. As she approached Prairie Lane she saw that a car was stopped with its left turn signal on, waiting to pull into a driveway. She was unable to stop the Toyota in time, so she veered to the right onto the shoulder. She avoided the rear-end crash, but the car slid on the roadside dirt and gravel and shot across the lane, crashing head-on into a northbound Dodge Ram pickup driven by 31-year-old Daryl Guthrie. Neither he nor his passenger, Jessica Rodeen, were injured. They had 2 kids with them, ages 2 and 5, and a 3 -year-old and 1-year-old were riding in the Toyota. The nature of the children’s injuries are not public, but Achinefu and her adult passengers, Chinemerem Achinefu and Grace Oleikpe, all suffered major injuries. Patients were split between Mercy, Shasta Regional and St. Elizabeth.
