Young Man Sentenced To Prison For Raping Teen Girl

A 21-year-old man from Corning has been sentenced for raping a young girl. The 14-year-old victim contacted Corning Police on June 10th and reported that she was sexually assaulted by Joshua Alexander Cortes earlier in the month. Cortes and a friend had driven the girl and one of her friends to Cortes’ apartment. When they got there, Cortes tried to make a pass at the girl and kiss her, but she said no. He then forced her into another room, pushed her to the floor, and raped her. Officers were trying to locate Cortes for a couple of weeks before they encountered him during a traffic stop and took him into custody. He was convicted of three felonies: child abuse, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, and sexual battery by restraint. He’s been sentenced to 8 years in state prison.
