Weekend Winter Storm Wrapup

The winter storm that hit the North State over the weekend brought lots of problems for motorists, including traffic delays, mud and rock slides and vehicles running off of roads. Snow fell as low as 2500 feet in some areas, requiring chain restrictions on all of the area’s mountain roads, including Interstate 5. Highway 80 in the Sierra was closed Sunday from Colfax in Placer County to the state line due to white-out conditions. In Trinity County, an overturned propane truck caused the closure of Sawyer Loop road. Highway 70 was closed for several hours overnight from Jarbo Gap to the junction with Highway 395. the City of Mt. Shasta received about a foot and half of new snow, while some snow fell in Magalia. The weather reporting station at Redding Municipal Airport tallied 2 inches of rain. There were also widespread power outages reported, including one in the Shingletown area affecting more than 1400 customers.
