Intoxicated Man Arrested After Allegedly Jumping Onto Moving Train, Blowing Whistle

Some Siskiyou County residents were awakened by a train whistle early Monday morning. At around 1:15AM, the CHP, Mount Shasta Police and Siskiyou County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance on a moving Amtrak Train after he allegedly jumped on-board the back-up engine while it was in motion in the vicinity of Cantara Loop. The shirtless man was reportedly under the influence and was hostile. He allegedly attempted to manipulate train-related control devices and activated the train whistle on numerous occasions. Train crewmen feared for their safety and did not approach the suspect. He reportedly attempted to place the train in “emergency stop mode” as well, potentially jeopardizing the crew and passengers. 26-year-old Dylan Thomas Baldini of McCloud was eventually detained by a Mount Shasta Police Officer in the vicinity of South Old Stage Road near Mott Road and turned over to a responding deputy. Baldini was arrested for being intoxicated in public and for trespassing on railroad property and interfering and hindering the operation of a train. He was booked into Siskiyou County Jail after being examined at a local hospital. The violations are misdemeanors and can result in fines and/or a county jail sentence.
