Grass Roots Group Is Suing Trinity County Over Cannabis Ordinance

Trinity County is preparing to defend itself against a lawsuit challenging the county’s commercial cannabis cultivation program. The Trinity Action Association, which identifies itself as a grass-roots organization of concerned citizens, claims that the county is out of compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act, or “CEQA”. Cultivation permits have been issued long before the completion of an environmental impact report, which the county expects by the end of June from a privately contracted consultant. Last week the county announced that they’ve retained a law firm to defend the program and the growers who are already well underway in building Trinity County’s legal cannabis industry. Before the passage of Proposition 64 decriminalized recreational use, the Trinity Action Association had already spent years fighting the proliferation of medical marijuana grows.
