Crews Make Progress Restoring Power, But Hundreds Remain Without Electricity

Redding Electric Utility expects to have all serviceable homes re-energized Wednesday. Tuesday night less than 200 customers were still in the dark. One week ago that number was around 32,000 of REU’s 45,000 customers. Even in neighborhoods that have mostly been restored, pockets of isolated outages remain as a result of fallen trees or grid damage specific to those areas or individual buildings. Those who still have no power or who see downed lines should call REU at 245-7000. In some cases, customers will need to fix their own equipment before they can be re-energized. Many customers might have their power restored and not even know it because their breaker boxes may have tripped off or their fuses may have blown. The same goes for PG&E customers, thousands of whom remain without power in Shasta County, including nearly 2000 in Anderson and Cottonwood, 500 in Lakehead, 100 in Ogo-Ono, about 500 in Millville and Palo Cedro, 1400 on the outskirts of Redding and many other localized zones. PG&E says it has more than 250 workers on the job trying to restore electricity. There’s an outage map at pge.com.
