Storm Runoff Forces Increase In Water Releases From Keswick Dam

The Sacramento River, already swollen by runoff from its banks, is about to get much bigger. At 2 O’clock Thursday afternoon the Bureau of Reclamation will almost quadruple the releases from Keswick Dam, from 7,000 to 25,000 cubic feet per second. Lake Shasta has risen dramatically with the recent storms. After rising more than 2 feet in a 24 hour period, the lake is less than 36 feet from the crest of Shasta Dam.
