Nearly 2 Tons Of Trash Removed From Homeless Camps

Since the City of Redding’s new illegal camping ordinance went into effect on February 16th, the Redding Police Community Clean-Up Team has been working through a backlog of reports that piled up while the enforcement of illegal camping was suspended. Police say the delay has caused untold environmental damage from the things left behind by campers. Last Thursday the clean-up team posted removal notifications at nine camps in the Henderson Open Space, south of the Cypress Bridge on the east side of the river. Thursday the team returned and hauled out more 4,000 pounds of trash from the abandoned camps.
