Mount Shasta Police Will Re-Open Dispatch Center Overnights

Residents of the City of Mount Shasta should soon have improved night time police coverage. The city council has voted to bring back the local dispatch center for the graveyard shift between 10PM and 6AM starting July 1st. Currently, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office handles police calls at night, which means that officers need to return to the office to get local history and contact information for people they may encounter. The city’s dispatch center also tracks the officers electronically, whereas the sheriffs office does not. Mount Shasta PD says that this will be an improvement for officer safety. It also means that the department will be staffed and there will always be someone there when people come in for help during the overnight hours. Now, the police department’s front doors are locked all night.
