An Anderson resident has been sentenced to federal prison for his huge collection of child pornography. Working from a lead out of Ohio, investigators raided the home of 51-year-old James Jay Hitt in January of 2013. He brandished a knife at the federal agents before they seized a desktop computer, an 80 Gigabyte hard drive and several data storage disks. Eventually the FBI gleaned more than 4,000 images and dozens of videos of child pornography. Hitt was taken into custody in June of 2015. A six day trial in January of last year showed that Hitt interacted with a 12 person network of child pornographers and managed a child porn blog. He messaged people through a Russian website that served as a platform for people to trade and discuss child porn. A federal jury found Hitt guilty of receiving, distributing and possessing child pornography. Hitt had a prior sexual abuse conviction and faced a maximum possible sentence of 140 years in federal prison. On Friday he was given a sentence of 40 years.
