Deputies Arrest Man Who They Say Was Going To Steal Generator

An alert Trinity County man apparently tipped off the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and prevented the theft of some expensive equipment. A deputy was sent Sunday to investigate in the area of a construction site off Hyampom Road. The deputy figured out that several people had been involved in the scheme, but they all appeared to have fled prior to his arrival. He looked around the area and found 26-year-old Jason Colebank of Hayfork hiding in the woods. He was apprehended and interviewed, during which he reportedly admitted to conspiring with several accomplices to steal a large generator from the site. Colebank had apparently already stolen a trailer from the Hayfork area, and it was going to be used to haul the generator away. All stolen property was returned to its owners and Colebank was booked into jail on several charges.
