Releases Into Sacramento River Increase By 10,000 CFS

City of Redding officials and others downriver are on alert after the Bureau of Reclamation announced Tuesday morning that releases from Keswick Dam would increase from 30,000 cubic feet per second to 40,000 CFS by Noon Tuesday. Lake Shasta is just over 13 feet from the crest of the dam. Redding Public Works is advising people to be cautious of low-lying areas such as Park Marina Drive, which can sometimes flood when the river level goes up, although the releases are not believed to be at the threshold that usually results in flooding. Just 6 inches of water can knock a person over and 12 inches can carry a car away.
