Sword Yielding Man Arrested By Deputies

A man approached about illegal camping in a remote area east of Redding displayed his swordplay for a while before being taken into custody, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. At around 11:30AM Friday morning a deputy went to the location on Dersch Road a little east of Ash Creek Coad to talk to 63-year-old Timothy Sedmak, who refused to leave his travel trailer and yelled at the deputy to leave him alone. A background check on Sedmak revealed he had declared himself a sovereign citizen, meaning a refusal to adhere to the law of the land. He also had a reported potential for violence. The deputy positioned himself further down Dersch Road and as he waited for backup, Sedmak came out of his trailer with a 3-foot sword and thrashed it around in the middle of the road while motioning for the deputy to approach. As more deputies arrived and closed Dersch Road, Sedmak repeatedly went in and out of his trailer. He eventually agreed to a parley and came out of the trailer without the sword. He was arrested after a struggle and booked into jail for resisting arrest, for the third time in four months. The Anderson Police K9 Aero assisted in the arrest.
