A parolee was chased by Redding Police after an officer attempted to pull over his pickup for expired registration in Downtown Redding early Thursday. The officer attempted to pull over the Dodge pickup near Sonoma Street and Waldon Street. The driver refused to pull over and officers say he ran several stops signs and got onto Highway 273 where he was driving about 80 miles an hour. Just north of Buenaventura the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Clayton Rhoads, made an abrupt turn toward the railroad tracks. The pickup became stuck in some rocks and Rhoads fled on foot. Officers deployed a Taser and Rhoads was taken into custody. Officers determined he had absconded from parole and he was taken to the hospital for a medical clearance. The owner of the pickup has not been identified because both license plates were apparently from other vehicles.
