Convict Who Left Fire Camp Located In Salinas

A man who left the Sugar Pine Conservation Camp east of Bella Vista Sunday apparently headed straight for his hometown. Irvin Enciso was convicted in 2017 in Monterey County for assault with a firearm, conspiracy, carrying a loaded gun in public, and burglary. He was serving a sentence of 9 years 8 months. After being seen at the camp at 12:40PM Sunday he was discovered missing after a head count at 2:45PM. Local law enforcement was alerted and various agencies were helping with the search, until just before 9 O’clock Sunday night when he was picked up by the Salinas Police Department. It’s a rare occurrence for an inmate to escape from Sugar Pine, although it’s not difficult because they aren’t even fenced in. It’s a minimum security facility for only the best behaving inmates in the prison system, and inmates very rarely try to get away. If they do they’re returned to a lock-up prison to serve the rest of their sentence, plus additional time for escaping.
