Planning Commission Will Hold Hearing On Anderson Landfill Expansion

The company that runs the Anderson Landfill wants to expand, and a public hearing is set for Thursday afternoon. The facility has been processing hundreds of dump trucks containing thousands of tons of debris from the Carr Fire, as well as the Camp Fire in Butte County. The company wants to extend its hours of operation and set up a temporary soil stockpile, scales and driveway outside the boundary allowed by its use permit. Apparently the adjustment would not increase the number of trucks rolling down Gas Point Road and West Anderson Drive to the landfill, but it would make it easier for the facility to handle the incoming material. The state has allowed the landfill to enjoy some exemptions from environmental regulations as it processes the enormous volume of fire debris. A public hearing by the Shasta County Planning Commission will be held at 2 O’clock Thursday afternoon in the Board of Supervisors Chambers on Court Street. Related documents are posted to the County Planning Division website.
