Park Service Anticipating Large Crowds At Whiskeytown

A popular local recreation spot is expected to be very busy this Independence Day holiday. Authorities at the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area are advising visitors to go early. Parking lots often reach capacity by 11:30AM. Once the Brandy Creek parking lot is full, cars may be stopped at the dam and have to wait until parking spaces become available. Alternatives to Brandy Creek for picnicking and lake access are Carr Powerhouse, Whiskey Creek, East Beach and Oak Bottom. The Park Service reminds visitors that no fireworks are allowed, smoking is only allowed in designated areas and pets and alcohol are not allowed at Brandy Creek, Oak Bottom and East Beach. They also advise that bear activity has been high this year. Secure trash cans tightly and never feed wild animals.
