The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department has announced another raid on illegal marijuana grows in the county. On Friday, June 28th, the sheriff’s office coordinated a series of counter-drug operations, seizing 4,134 plants, primarily in the Big Springs area, located southeast of Montague, north of County Road A-12. Search warrants served on eight parcels. In addition to the plants, 52.2 pounds of processed marijuana were seized. The Siskiyou Interagency Marijuana Investigation Team, “SIMIT”, led the raids, focusing their operations on large cultivation sites, both outdoors and in greenhouses. Combining May and June enforcement totals, “SIMIT” has seized more than 23,000 illegal marijuana plants and 899 pounds of processed pot, some of it packaged in one-pound bags for sale. Charges are pending against property owners implicated in the trafficking operation.
