Cal-Trans is marking a milestone with the completion of the Delta Fire Emergency Project. The recovery from last year’s devastating fire north of Lakehead involved the removal of around 10,000 burnt dead trees. Crews also had to replace 7 culverts that are each several hundred feet long, as well as new paving, guardrail, signs, erosion control measures and other essential features that are never noticed by the traveling public. The fire in September of last year burned more than 63,000 acres and forced a weeklong closure of Interstate Five. It started on or near the freeway in the Delta Road area, though a cause has never been identified.
