Local fire firefighters had their hands full Tuesday afternoon. A vegetation fire was reported at about 2:20PM at 19090 Lorina Drive, south of Olinda Road in Happy Valley. The initial report was that it was one acre in size, with a moderate rate of spread. It grew to about 2 and a half acres and burned 2 outbuildings before crews got a hose line around it. Less than an hour later, another vegetation fire broke out in the Mountain Gate area near the Fawndale Exit. Air tankers responding to Happy Valley were re-routed to this fire, but were later called off. The Fawndale fire burned about a quarter acre before it was brought under control.
